How to remove algae from your pool water

SYMPTOMS:

Greenish water color, cloudy water, slippery surfaces, clogged filters and excessive chemical consumption.

REASON:

Algae can grow due to poor circulation or filtration, improper chemical maintenance, insufficient cleaning or environmental influences.

Although it should be noted that algae do not cause disease, their presence is not pleasant.

MOST COMMON TYPES OF ALGAE IN SWIMMING POOLS:

GREEN ALGAE: adheres to the wall and floats freely, whereby the water becomes cloudy and acquires the algae's own color.

MUSTARD ALGAE: will stick to the wall and will not stain the water unless physically treated. After scrubbing, they look like a fine brown powder.

BLACK ALGAE: will stick to the wall, mostly will appear in the joint or tile grout and are very difficult to remove.

TREATMENT:

Below we list the steps to follow to perform a correct treatment to eliminate algae in the pool.

1. At least one hour before the shock treatment, use "pH Minor" or "pH Plus" to adjust the pH to between 7.2 and 7.6.

2. Use Chlorine granules as a shock treatment.

3. Filter for 24 hours or until the water becomes clear.

4. Thoroughly scrub the pool walls and floor and allow the suspended debris to settle back to the floor

5. Vacuum the remains with a manual pool cleaner.

6. Add algaecide to remove the small particles that have survived the process.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if your pool is a LINER pool, be very careful, as the granular chlorine can burn the pcv and cause stains and even holes. Dissolve powdered or granulated chlorine in water first and then distribute it throughout the pool water.
