In today's post we want to show you the steps to follow so you can adjust and regulate the pH of your pool water.

The pH is a parameter of vital importance for a correct maintenance of the pool, so you must keep it in mind. Adding disinfectant product in your pool will not be enough, but it will also be necessary that the pH is well adjusted.

THE pH OF POOL WATER

The pH is a measure that indicates the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, in this case of the pool water. The acronym pH stands for Potential of Hydrogen or Potential of Hydrogenions.

In the case of swimming pools, having the pH of the water correctly adjusted is important so that the health of the water is optimal, does not negatively affect its disinfection and is ideal for the bather's skin (dryness) and eyes (itching).

The scale that measures the pH is between the values of 0 (the most acidic) and 14 (the most basic). And for a correct maintenance of the pool water, it is important to keep the pH 7.2 and 7.6 adjusted.

That is why we recommend that you test your pool water on a regular basis to check its pH. And in the case that it is out of adjustment to be able to carry out the necessary operations for its correct adjustment.

To carry out the pertinent analyses, you will have to use some of the Chlorine-PH analyzer kits that exist in the market. And if you prefer, there are also digital analyzers and photometers that allow you to analyze a wide variety of pool water parameters(see analyzer kits)

Adjusting and regulating the pH

Once the water of your pool has been analyzed and if you find that the pH is out of adjustment you will have to carry out the following steps:

- pH lower or lower than 7-7,2: you will have to add pH increaser in the pool water to increase the value.

- pH higher than 7.6: you will have to add pH Reducer to the pool water to reduce the value.

If you do not do this, you will notice that the pool water turns green, algae may appear and you will need to add more disinfectant than normal. It can also cause turbidity in the water, irritation and dryness of the skin, itchy eyes, corrosion of metallic elements of the pool (stairs, handrails, ...), ...

Consult the label of the chemical product(Increaser or Reducer) to determine the exact amount of product to be added to the pool water and without bathers in the pool. Also, then you should leave the filtration equipment running for a correct distribution of the product in the water.
